WYMT meteorologist Brandon Robinson dies
HAZARD, Ky. — WYMT meteorologist and Harlan County native Brandon Robinson has died, following a nine-year battle with brain cancer. With an infectious personality and a passion for his work, Robinson quickly became a popular figure in Eastern Kentucky. His public battle with cancer, both personally and on behalf of others through the Grey Matters charity he co-founded with his wife, cemented his status as a favorite son of the mountains. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. Mountain Top News will update this story, once they are released. Brandon Robinson was 42 years old.

Police seek suspect following alleged sexual assaults
Pikeville City Police are now investigating two reports of alleged sexual assault against a female students at the University of Pikeville. Police say they received reports alleging the assaults took place in Pikeville’s city garage adjacent to the university. The department have deploying extra patrols looking for the unidentified suspect, and UPIKE security has been told and asked to search, too. The man is described as a white male, approximately five feet seven inches tall with a reddish brown beard and wearing glasses. Naugatuck Post Office reopens for mail pickup
NAUGATUCK, W.Va. — More than six months after it was damaged by flooding, postal customers can now return to the Naugatuck Post Office to pick up their mail. Other services are still limited, Postmaster Dan Howard says, but he said he believes customers will be happy with the development. “It’s coming along slowly, but we’re getting there,” Howard said. Naugatuck postal customers were having to pick up their mail from the Kermit Post Office after the flood.

Beshear, Rogers announce $26 million in grants
CORBIN, Ky. — Gov. Andy Beshear and U.S. Rep. Harold “Hal” Rogers announced nearly $26 million to help support education, tourism and economic development in Kentucky’s Appalachian region. The funding was announced at the annual SOAR conference in Corbin. Fifteen recipients in 11 counties are receiving a combined $25.95 million as part of the Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization Program. Pedestrian struck and killed in South Williamson
SOUTH WILLIAMSON, Ky. — Kentucky State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash in Pike County. Troopers say it happened around 8:30 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 119 in South Williamson. Investigators say a black Audi A3 was heading south when Meghan Jones, 36, of Williamson, W.Va., tried to cross the road and was struck.Jones was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pike County Coroner’s Office.KSP’s accident reconstruction team is handling the investigation.
