HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: Pikeville edges East Ridge in thriller to claim 59th title; Belfry breezes to 60th championship over PCC

McKinlee Potter finished with 29 kills and 11 digs in the 25-27, 25-23, 28-26, 20-25 and 15-7 win.

Caroline Wright added 14 kills, two blocks, and 10 digs while Grace Clark totaled 54 assists and 14 digs. Jenna Ousley had 36 digs and Tausha Justice added 21.Kara Lee had 18.

Hannah Akers totaled nine kills and four blocks.

Slyvia Ratliff led the Lady Warriors with 16 kills while Hannah Steffey added 13.

Kierstin Coleman had 12 kills and 19 digs and Courtlin Phillips tallied 48 digs, a new school record.

Kierstin Coleman finished with 14 kills, 12 digs and four aces in the 25-20, 25-19 and 25-18 win.

Sylvia Ratliff had nine kills and two digs while Sarah Woods finished with 34 assists, 12 digs and three aces. Courtlin Phillips tallied 21 digs and three aces.

Kyra Looney had 16 kills and 19 digs for the Lady Kats while Jazzy Meade added 16 assists and 18 digs. Lauren Hawkins had 13 digs and Jessca Prater totaled 10.

McKinlee Potter totaled 13 kills in the 25-7, 25-12 and 25-7 win.

Grace Clark finished with 20 assists, five digs and 10 serving aces. Tausha Justice tallied 14 digs, Kara Lee had 11 and Jenna Ousley 10.

Clara McNamee, Emma Harris, and Jayden Mullins was among the leaders in the 26-24, 25-14and 26-24 win.

Emalie Tackett paced the Lady Hawks with 16 kills and 30 digs while Kaliegh Varney finished with 19 assists and 11 digs. Anna Matton totaled 48 digs.

Emalie Tackett collected 22 kills, 48 digs and five serving aces in the 25-12, 17-25, 21-25, 25-18 and 15-9 win.

Kaliegh Varney finished with 32 assists and nine digs while Anna Matton totaled 68 digs. Livia Sanders followed with 22 digs and nine aces.

Amelia Casey had a monster match for Phelps with 18 kills and 16 blocks. Jaycie Stanley added five kills, two blocks, 28 digs and three aces.

Emma Turner had 21 digs while Ivy Layne and Kori Murphy added 20 each.


HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Sparks runs wild in Cardinals win over Blackcats

Martin County running back Kolby Sparks ran through Prestonsburg’s defense in leading the Cardinals to a 48-20 win at The Rock on Friday night.

He finished with 359 yards and four touchdowns on 26 rushing attempts as the Cardinals moved to 7-3. Branson Smith added 83 yards and two scores on 12 carries while quarterback Jason Maynard ran for a touchdown.

Prestonsburg quarterback Reece Hamilton passed for a pair of scores, both to Jon Little. He hauled in three passes for 59 yards.

Running back Carter Akers had 176 yards and one touchdown on 19 rushing attempts.

Martin County will close out the regular season on the road at East Carter (7-3) on Friday night. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
